Halloween Party at Home Ideas

Halloween is just a few weeks away. If you're planning to host a simple Halloween party at home with relatives, friends or neighbors and the kids, here are some party ideas and tips to make it a creepy success.

Halloween Food and Drinks
Serve these spooky treats or have a potluck party and let your guests bring over their own.
Halloween Party Food and Drinks

Finger foods like sandwiches cut using Halloween cookie cutters, crackers and cheese, french fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, fish nuggets, pizza, cocktail hotdogs, mini tacos and burgers. Use orange, black or Halloween designed serving dishes if available. If you want something heavy, you may opt to serve pasta in pesto or read sauce.

Chocolate pudding in clear cups. Stick a cookie or wafer "gravestone" and draw an outline RIP using cake decorating gel or chocolate.

Veggies and Chips with dips. Prop small plastic spiders on your dish.

Make a non-alcoholic punch and call it "Swamp Juice". Try this green brew punch recipe.
Ingredients: 2 cups sugar, 2 quarts water, 2 (0.13-ounce) envelopes lime drink mix, 1 (46-ounce) can pineapple juice and 1 quart ginger ale

In a large punch bowl, stir together the 2 quarts of water and the sugar until fully dissolved. Then mix in the lime drink mix and the pineapple juice. Chill and add the ginger ale just before the party. Place dry ice in a bigger bowl for a much eerie presentation.

Halloween Party Games
Aside from the usual trick or treating, why not play these fun games as well.
Halloween Party Games and Activities

Mummy Wrapping Game
What you need:
Rolls of Toilet Paper

Divide the children or adults into teams of three and give each team a roll of toilet paper. Their job is to wrap one member of their team like a mummy, but do not wrap the face for safety reasons. Turn on the music, set a timer for ten minutes, and let them begin. Once finished, let all the mummies walk around and model their wrapping job for the other guests. Let the guests vote for the best mummy.

Spider Web Game
What you need:
Yarn
A toy for each child

Hide a toy somewhere in the house. Then tie that toy to the end of a ball of yarn. Wind the yarn around the room and furniture such as chairs, table legs etc. Tie the end to something (it will be the child's starting point so you may want all the ends to start in the same place). Do the same for each toy. Have the kids select one string to follow their toy.

Treasure Hunt
What you need:
30 or more chocolate gold coins

Hide the chocolate gold coins. Send the kids out to find as many coins as they can within an allotted time. The kids who collect the most coins get a prize.

Haunted Halloween Walk
What you need:
Halloween-themed object per player, such as a broom, pumpkin, spider, witch's hat etc.

Place the Halloween-themed items in a circle on the floor in the play area. Start the music, and have your guests walk around in a circle, stepping next to the objects. At random intervals, stop the music and have everyone freeze by the item next to them. From a jar or hat, draw the name of one of the Halloween objects. The person standing next to that object is "out". Pull the player and object out of the game. Repeat the process until there is one child and object left.

Crystal Ball
What you need:
Crystal ball
Strips of paper

Fortune -telling is all the more fun with a bowl of mystery on hand. Write several fortunes so each guest can take one home.
