Authentic Korean dishes and street foods are something you should definitely try within the streets of Myeondoing and Namdaemun. There are so many to begin with, you’ll have a hard time figuring out which one to try first. Here are some of them, which we adventurously tried. They all are interestingly hard to resist once you see them along the streets. Curiosity will win over you but don’t worry, they are all very tasteful.
I ate a lot of these Korean ice cream despite the rainy cold weather. Their soft serve ice cream is a must try! I
absolutely love the blueberry and green tea flavor.
These Kamegol buns are along the streets of Namdaemun are so delicious! They taste like Japanese Gyoza in a
Siopao bun.
If you're tired and thirsty from all that shopping, this very refreshing lemonade stand will perk you up again. I guess they consume hundreds of fresh lemons a day.
Fried and dried octopus and squids are something you can munch along while shopping.
This Korean Honey Candy or also known as Dragon's Beard in China is an ancient confection. The candy is made from crushed peanuts inside, while the cocoon like threads wrapping around it is rice flour. What's very popular about this is how they amazingly make it in front of you while you buy and wait. They skillfully spun the rice flour to very thin like strings, like how Chinese make their noodles. If you open one, you have to eat it right away because they turn to hard candy.
People line up for these sausages especially after work. One stick can make you really full already.
Pojangmacha are small tented restaurants or street stalls, which sells popular, authentic Korean dishes like gimbap and soondae. Restaurants in Myeondoing and Namdaemun offer a more wide variety like bibimbap, bulgogi and noodles. Their also appetizing side dishes, served along with the main course consists of the traditional kimchi, radish, pickled cabbage, salad and spicy squid. They are hot and spicy, and I love them!!!
This udong noodles doesn't look like spicy, but they surely are. We are partly glad that we didn't bring along the kids with us because we'll definitely have a problem figuring out what to feed them.
This is Beef Bulgogi in soup. Beef Bulgogi alone is grilled marinated beef and is actually listed on World's 50 most delicious food poll compiled by CNN.
Bibimbap is very popular in Korea and it means mixed rice. Well, it is exactly what you should do because they serve it with raw egg on top or fried.
Gimbap, which is very similar to Sushi. Rolled inside are vegetables, egg, meat or fish.
