Seoul Korea: Namsanghol Hanok Village

Namsanghol Hanok Village was the first attraction we visited because it was walking distance from Seoul Backpackers, the hostel where we stayed in. To get to this popular tourist spot is actually very accessible, anywhere you are in Seoul. You just have to take the subway and go down to Chungmuro Station right in front of the village. Admission is also free of charge.

The village has five restored traditional Korean houses rebuilt after the Joseon Dynasty and belong to those of various social classes, ranking from peasants to the king. It displays various furniture and household items to give you a glimpse of their lifestyle during that period.

There are many activities, which you can participate in. Get to experience their rich culture such as traditional Korean performances and these elders making straw bags, shoes and other crafts.
You can also watch a traditional marriage ceremony, typically held around noon. Visitors can take pictures with their husband or wife wearing traditional wedding costumes.

The village also has an interesting time capsule. To celebrate the 600-year anniversary of the appointment of Seoul as the capital city of Korea, 600 items representing Seoul were buried in the Seoul Millennium Time Capsule. It is scheduled to be opened on 2394, which will be the city's 1000-year anniversary.
Many Koreans and tourists go here to stroll and simply marvel on its landscape. The gardens, ponds and pavilions of Namsan are truly so beautiful!
A glimpse of the Seoul Tower, where we headed next.
